MioEverywhere works for post-production too

In my habitual trawl of my favourite video blogs I came across this comment:

“Future video production will require larger capacity storage devices and system and networking and interface technologies to support them.”

This was in response to the observation that high-res content is rapidly becoming the norm, and this is throwing up challenges for storage and bandwidth.

Sure, people who make video and film are facing a need to innovate in their work processes in order to make the most of the new capabilities of the medium. But what about further down the line? Doesn’t this have implications for post-production too?

Let’s start with some basic facts. Post-production work involves sharing assets within and between companies, often across geographical distances – including increased outsourcing to places like India. You’ve got different people doing each stage: editing, audio mixing, video repurposing, transcoding, subtitling, credits, closed captioning, CGI, animation and special effects. That’s potentially a lot of cooks working on the broth.

They’re increasingly going to need some way of collaborating properly. Not to mention secure file transfer, video workflow management and fast, global delivery of some fairly large assets.  (Any cost-savings derived from outsourcing could easily be wiped out with file transfer and collaboration costs.)

Post-production companies have been expressing quite a lot of interest in MioEverywhere as a possible solution to the challenges they face when they outsource. It makes perfect sense.
